    Agenda Items:

    1. Recap of Transform Java to C++ Workshop
    - It was a successful workshop. Around 20 undergrad and grad students attended the workshop and found it interesting and useful. We should continue to hold similar workshops in the following semesters.

    2. Distinguished Speakers
    - Kate suggested to invite graduated students from CS to talk about their experiences in industry.
    - Greg suggested talking to Christine about this. Kate agreed to do so.

    3. Grace Hopper Scholarship Applications
    - Kate got 2 responses from undergrad students and 6 responses from grad students who are interested in GHC. Kate has made inquiries about alternative funding sources, and Greg announced that the deadline for the application for internal funding is now June 3rd. Grad students can also try to apply for the funding. Please indicate in the application if you are presenting your work at the conference or not. Kate will send out an announcement regarding the application. Students interested in applying should contact Kate.
    - Deadline of application for the Grace Hopper Scholarship from the conference: June 15, 2008

    4. Open House
    - WICS table is in the south atrium.
    - We need swags, table cloth, bookmarks and chictech stuff. Kate will contact Janice for the t-shirts.
    - Angelica motioned that we spend up to $20 on candies, and Kate seconded.
    - Greg suggested that staff should be there at 10AM.

    5. Technical Interview Workshop Preparation
    - Kate motioned that we spend up to $30 on the food for refreshments. Ming seconded.
    - Winona has prepared the posters for the workshop.

    6. Mentor lunch
    - Greg reported the progress for the mentor lunch. Greg will contact Sasha about the date and time. We will draw students names for the first lunch from a list of students who attended last semester’s meetings.

    7. WICS BBQ
    - Kate motioned to move this item to next meeting. Ming seconded.

    8. Brown Bag Lunch
    - Brittany will do another brown bag luch in June.

    9. Open Floor
    - Kate created a WICS group in LinkedIn.
    - Ruby on rails: first Monday of July (July 7). Winona will contact Max.

    1. Recap of Chictech Event
    - Santi thanked everyone who volunteered for the Chictech event last week.
    - Santi suggested to create a committee for next year’s Chictech event and keep documents. Kate suggested to involve newer WICS members
    - Hiromi thanked Kate’s mother for the great effort she put in the event.
    - Kate suggested that everyone who participated in this year’s event could write down some suggestions for next year’s event and email them to her: kjtsouka AT gmail DOT com by June 30th.
    - Janice will try to provide copies of relevant documentation to Kate and Santi by June 30th.

    2. Treasurer Update
    - Brittany reported the current funding situation of WICS.
    - Kate suggested that WICS should look for external fundings as well.

    3. Events Coordinator Update
    - Winona reported the events organized by WICS in the last semester.
    * The Valentine’s Tea and Sweets Event was very successful.
    * Some students planned to attend the technical interview workshop but cannot find the venue — the announcement and promotion of the events could be improved.
    - Kyle suggested that WICS could organize joint events with CSSS, and expand to Surrey Campus. Brittany and Kate talked about the Women in Technology group in Surrey and suggested to seek collaboration with Women in Technology.
    - Kate suggested to promote WICS in other departments.

    4. Transform Java to C++ Workshop
    - Winona: workshop is prepared
    - Winona suggested to acknowledge Ted for his effort
    - Kate will organize thank-you gift.

    5. Election of New Communications Coordinator
    - Angelica explained the role of communication coordinator: website and emails.
    - Winona nominated Santi, Angelica seconded.
    - Santi was elected communications coordinator by 7 votes/7 votes.

    6. Creation of New Website Committee
    - Report to the communications coordinator.
    - Mona and Harman will sit on a website committee reporting to Santi.

    7. SFU Open House
    - Kate: Presentation materials, volunteers, swag? –> we have pens, leaflets, banner. the bookmarks may need to be redesigned to bring down printing costs.
    - Winona reported the results of the meeting with CSSS.
    - Winona suggested to prepare swag in Open House.

    8. Distinguished Speakers
    - Kate: should we do it again? –> moved to next meeting’s agenda.

    9. WICS BBQ/Beach Trip
    - Winona suggested a BBQ trip. Kate agreed.
    - Angelica suggested to have the BBQ event while watching fireworks (July 23rd, tentatively).

    10. Grace Hopper Scholarship Applications
    - Reminder of grace hopper scholarship applications being open. –> moved to next meeting

    11. Google New York Trip
    - Angelica and Ming reported their Google New York Office trip.
    - Angelica: Google Anita Borg scholarship is to acknowledge female students with strong academic and leadership background. She met some excellent women from other universities.
    - Ming: Angelica and Ming could provide a presentation about the scholarship.
    - Kate: The scholarship is open to international students too.

    12. Open Floor
    - Kyle talked about the frosh week organized by CSSS.
