1. * West coast women’s show 2009 is in Oct (http://www.westcoastwomen.net/).

  * A lot of companies are coming.

  * A good place to find sponsors.

  * It is fun!

 

2. Sparks

  * WICS are looking for volunteers  interested in visiting 5-7 year old girls any Monday evenings (From mid October to June) from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Burnaby at Cascades Heights Elementary School to do a science activity of your choice with the girls

  * Liyang would like to help with SPARKS.

  * Volunteers can reply to Winona or Liyang by email

 

3. CJSF Radio show

  * Winona will talk about WICS and chicTech at Tuesday, October 6 between 4 and 5 p.m.

 

4. Career day

  * Kerry, past WICS president, presented in Telus info-session

  * Kate, past WICS president, presented in Microsoft info-session

 

 

5. Database workshop

  * Will happen in Nov

  * Rhonda Chaytor http://www.cs.sfu.ca/people/GradStudents/rlc8/ will give a tutorial about SQL, Access.

 

 

6. Mentor lunch

  * Oct 22, 12 am-1 pm

  * Stella Atkins  http://www.cs.sfu.ca/~stella/ is the mentor.

 

 

7. Scholarship workshop

  * Vivian emailed financial aid staff

  * We need to decide the time. Early in Nov?

  * It is a panel discussion

  * We will have staff presentation and experience sharing by scholarship winners

  * It is about 1 hour long

 

 

8. ACM programming competition

  * As far as we know, only two girls participated in ACM programming competition

  * Carrie Wang ,one of the past participator,  is willing to help guiding new students for the competition.

  * Anther similar competition is google code jam

  * These are great activities to do outside the study, which are desired by the company, such as google and mirosoft.

 

9. funding

 

  * Should we apply funding from school soon?

  * Greg suggest to wait later to apply for better funding opportunities

  * Winona will talk with Jane about the funding.

 

10. Winona is working on a Microsoft tour.
