    Meeting was cancelled due to weather on campus. Updates from execs are below:

    Youyou:

    1. Things you’ve done since our last meeting
    • I submitted funding request to FAS asking for $1500, have not heard from FAS yet
    • Co-op office have forwarded our our sponsorship package to their company contacts
    • I have heard from:
      • NESA , they have Regional Opportunity fund that we can apply (Liyang will follow up on that)
      • Faronice, they are interested in sending booth to Try/CATCH and may give gifts (need further discussion)
      • ePly, they offer to provide registration solution for us (need further discussion)
    • I visited stores at metrotown for small sponsorship
      • future shop, superstore, source, telus, WB Games, Chapter, The Bay
      • most of them ask me to contact their head office
    • I contacted Youna’s contacts from last year. And we get the same rate discount from USP store #117
    2. Things you will do before our next meeting (Feb 28th)
    • contact head office of stores I visited and visit more stores near my place
    • print stuff for sponsorship
    • follow up with Faronice and ePly

    Ashley:

    1. Things you’ve done since our last meeting
    • fixed banner on website
    • opened registration
    • few other minor updates (like updating some dates, exec info)
    • been talking to Laura about database changes - currently ruby commands not working
    2. Things you will do before our next meeting (Feb 28th)
    • First, I cannot come on the 28th, I’m moving that day
    • Will send out agenda, book room, and organize someone to take notes
    • I’ll also try to turn everyone’s replies into minutes for the website, so please make sure to include me in your replies
    • finish database updates
    • commit updates made past couple days (photos, minor changes)
    Maryam:
    1. Things you’ve done since our last meeting
    • Designing sponsorship packages, funding proposal, posters, letter and envelope, and student pamphlet for Try/CATCH.
    • I have talked to people in MITACS networking workshop about sponsoring Try/CATCH. I’ll give their contacts to Sara to follow them up.
    • I have talked to CS grad students about presenting their work in our poster session.
    • I found two volunteers to help to set up posters
    2. Things you will do before our next meeting (Feb 28th)
    • I am going to send first Call for Posters to CS Grads
    • I ‘ll finalize the poster and the other graphics
    Shannon:
    1. Things you’ve done since our last meeting:
    • Cleared out Try/CATCH email
    • Organized my list of counselors/students
    2. Things you will do before our next meeting (Feb 28th)
    • If we have finalized documents (i.e. student pamphlets, high school letter, and poster) before next meeting, I will send out an email to all high school counsellors
    • Mailing/posting things up will probably have to wait until I see Youyou Monday and she can give me printed things to mail
    • Will try to make a visit to Burnaby North (my former high school) to see if they’re willing to put up posters and know teachers in the other schools who will do so as well
    Sara:
    1. Things you’ve done since our last meeting
    • I have contacted these companies for sponsorship: Telus, Google, Fortiner,, RIM, Microsoft, Kodak, Safe Software, Acceture, Rogers Communication.
    2. Things you will do before our next meeting (Feb 28th)
    • follow up with companies I contacted
    • contact list of companies I get from Shannon
    • take a look at Anita Borg Institute’s pass it on award
    • Simba Technology:I try to find their contact info and ask them if they are interested to sponsor us again.
    Youna:
    1. Things you’ve done since our last meeting
    • I email the school radio station with all the information about our event so they can broadcast it.
    • NO RESPONSES but will do a follow up this week

    • follow up with the school radio station
    Scouting out Small Sponsors:
    • Maryam can go to Safeway, Walmart, and London Drugs
    • Sara can go to Extra Foods, Save-On Foods, Safeway, Walmart, London Drugs, and The Dollar Store

    1.Bi-weekly Yoga
    Feedback:
    7 people showed up for the Yoga class.
    Ouldooz used the money in the cash box, since she couldn’t find Maryam(WICS treasure).
    In total, Ouldooz paid $174 ( $90 from WICS Cash Box, and the rest is from Yoga members (7 x $12 = $84)) for the Yoga class.  Two people who registered online did not attend any of sessions. Total attendees: 7.

    Time: 5:30-6:45 ( 75 minutes)
    Payment (for 6 sessions):
    WICS pays $90, and then $12/Person

    3.Mentor Lunch
    Mentor: Dr. Lyn Bartam
    Date: Feb 25th, 2011
    Time: 12 noon
    Location:
    Himalayan Peak at SFU Cornerstone
    Volunteer:
    Sara send out the email. However, no one reply her, since it’s midterm weeks and people are busy.
    Ouldooz and Sara will rewrite the email to make it looks more interesting so people would come.

    4.Technical Workshop
    Topic:C++ workshop
    Date: March 1, 12:00pm to 2:30pm
    Presenter: Mehrdad Oveis
    Conclusion:
    Karen had booked the room. She will also print out 30 copies for Mehrdad’s powerpoint.
    Ela will volunteer for the workshop as well (to be in CSIL at the time of workshop).

    5.Networking Event:
    Date: Monday, March 28, 2011
    Time: Around 6:30 pm (for about 1.5 hours )
    Location: Highland pub
    Budget: 100 dollars (decided last meeting)
    Conclusion:
    We decided to postpone the date, since the guest speaker will not be available between March 11- March 18.
    For the networking event, we are planning to invite 6 guest speaker ( 4 professional people, and 2 interns).

    6.GoSC Workshop:
    Date: Tuesday, April 5th, 2011.
    Time: 3:30 - 5:00 pm
    Room: 9204 west.
    Conclusion: We think April 5th is good time to held the workshop, since the deadline for GoSC is April 8th.

    Sara will contact Tobi
    Queena will book the room.

    7.International Women’s Day
    Date: March 8
    Time: Around noon
    Conclusion:
    WICS will also use the the same theme with women centre: Theme (100 years ,100 achievements),
    1. We will send out email, and collect great women achievements from the member.
    And later, we will post those great women achievements on the board.
    2. We will provide free lunch and cake.
    3. Professor Funda will be our guest speaker. She will be here and give short talk.

    8.E-Newsletter
    Conclusion: Nazi Marzieh and Karen didn’t come to the meeting. So we got no update from them.

    9.CJSF radio
    Feedback:
    Ouldooz and Youna recorded the tape on Feb 11, 2011.
    Ouldooz had edited the tape . The CJSF will find sometime to put it on air.
    Time: 25 minutes
    Date: It will be Biweekly, and is starting this Friday (Feb 11, 2011)
