IT Career networking night is an informal social gathering for students and professionals who are currently working in the Technology field. This event is open for ALL GENDERS and MAJORS who are interested in IT industry.

You can meet the following technical women among our guests in this event:
Tracy Huitika is a Business Development Manager at MacDonald, Dettwiler, and Associates Geospatial Services Inc. (MDA GSI), where she defines, creates, and develops targeted geospatial service offerings for the Aviation market. Prior to her new career in Business Development, Tracy was the Director of Game Development at a local gaming company. She has a solid background in science and technology, and has spent the majority of her career in software engineering and management on projects at MDA such as the Naval Combat Operator Trainer for the Canadian Navy, the US Air Force Global Procedure Designer, and the CP-140 Synthetic Aperture Radar for the Canadian Air Force. Tracy’s educational background includes a Post-Baccalaureate in Computing Science from SFU, studying physics at UBC, and completing a Bachelor of Science in Astronomy and Mathematics from the University of Manitoba.
Tracy lives in the West End of Vancouver, where she takes full advantage of the seawall and ocean by rollerblading, running, and swimming at the local beaches. She also enjoys fitness training and plays soccer for the Vancouver Vixens Soccer Club.
Paula Hunter has been working in the high tech industry in the Localization field for over 11 years. Localization is the process of adapting software UI to meet the needs of different markets. This role has allowed her to touch on many different aspects of software development since they work with so many different teams. For example, work with the UI team to ensure that software UI design is culturally appropriate; the software development team to ensure that the source code is fully internationalized; the test team to ensure appropriate test case coverage; external translation vendors to deliver UI translations; Product Marketing team to discuss needs and requirements of consumers in the various market regions; error managers to ensure localization is taken into the process; build and integration team to ensure correct language codes and combinations are used; etc…. Her role has essentially been to coordinate, facilitate, educate and drive improvements across all teams involved in software project. And so have had the opportunity to develop and mature processes, as well as learn about all the different aspects of software development.
Paula began working in Localization as a coop student with Seagate Software, and from there was hired full time. (Seagate Software eventually become Crystal Decisions, and then Business Objects, and now SAP). She now works for Nokia and have been there for nearly 7 years. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Hispanic and Italian Studies from UVic, and a Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Computing Science from SFU (ARC program).
Winona Wu: Winona was once an active member of Women in Computing Science (WICS@SFU) during her education here at SFU, first as Events Coordinator and then as its President. After graduating her Masters degree in Computing Science from SFU, she started her internship as Software Tester with BI OnDemand team at SAP. She is now pursuing her career as Quality Assurance Analyst at Elastic Path.
Liyang Zhang is Bachelor of GIS, Computing Science from Simon Fraser University. During her Bachelor degree, she has been involved in Women in Computing Science (WICS@SFU) as Communications Coordinator for two semesters and then as President of the club for two semesters. She is now working in HSBC, Distribution. She is working on planning deployment metrics, project plans, and project timelines. She has previously worked in Ministry of Agriculture on developing Okanagan Water Demand Model project as an Intern.
